| About Our Breeding Program We believe in breeding for quality and not quantity. Therefore, we don't have a litter on the ground every month and our females are not bred every time they come into heat! Before any dog enters our breeding program, both the sire and dam must have OFA and CERF testings done. Belgians must have OFA Hips and Elbows done along with CERF for eyes which is done yearly. Boxers must be cleared for any genetic heart issues by a certified cardiologist through the OFA. Not mandatory but also nice to have done is OFA Hips, Elbows and CERF for eyes. If either the sire or dam does not meet our requirements for breeding, it doesn't take place. Before acquiring any puppy, make sure that the breeder can provide certificates from the OFA. Just because they say they don't have these problems, doesn't mean they don't exist unless they are tested and certified. We show our dogs year round in American Kennel Club (AKC) and United Kennel Club (UKC). We have had a few dogs hold Top Ten spots in UKC. Few things you should know before contacting us. Lightning Kennels take great pride in our dogs no matter what age. Puppies are whelped in our home under supervision and handled daily. They have play times in different rooms in the house with many different things to help stimulate their brains. This starts when they start walking. We also socialize them with different people of all ages. So by the time they leave they love everybody they see. We are happy to discuss our dogs and available puppies, but we do have special requirements to protect our puppies/dogs and the years of selective breeding that has gone into producing quality puppies. Meaning we don't produce a litter every year. If you are interested in a puppy from Lightning Kennels, PLEASE be honest in your intentions. We will be much easier to deal with if you are honest rather than if we find out after the fact and we have to repossess the dog because you were dishonest about the contract. Remember once you sign the contract it means you AGREE with what it says!! If your looking to get a show potential puppy and you are a novice show home we will select your puppy for you. When we first started we were clueless on showing in "conformation" because we only showed in obedience. We have had some good and bad luck with some of our first show dogs as some breeders didn't help pick a puppy and we ended up with dogs that we could only show in obedience, etc. So Yes, we can help!! Companion puppies/Pet Contract with a limited registration, and MUST be spayed/neutered. Also No Boxer is to ever live his/her life entirely as a kennel/outside dog. They are placed in homes where they are valuable family members and no puppy will ever be knowingly placed in a kennel only environment. Boxers are inside dogs, and require human interaction in a family setting. |
