Lightning Belgians is a small show/breeding kennel in Northeast Ohio. We are committed to producing quality Belgian Sheepdogs (Groenendael) for show, performance and home. In addition to our own carefully planned litters, we offer stud service to approved females.
Temperament is first and foremost in our breeding program. Our goal is to breed a Belgian Sheepdog of sound mind, body, and excellent health, that meet the breed standard and type. Many of our dogs participate in many venues from the show ring to Obedience, Agility, Herding and even as a service dog and most importantly are excellent family companions. All of the dogs used in our breeding program have their health clearances, including hip, elbow and eye certifications.
Our love of Belgians began in 1991 from a local breeder who had a older Belgian returned to her due to lack of care by previous owners. Once back in health he became ours, his name was, Billy. We strictly wanted a pet and a dog to be used as a 4-H project dog. However, we purchased another Belgian from a couple at a local dog training school, Cody. He was already 2 years old and the couple felt he wasn't the right dog for them. He was also a half brother to Billy. I continued his training in Obedience as he became my next 4-H project dog. Since he was also out of show quality parents we were encouraged to think about going to some obedience matches. Cody or Billy never made it into the show ring. However, Cody did earn his Companion Dog Title (CD). We didn't breed our first litter until 2009. We have co-bred a couple Belgian litters with Images Belgians and also a Boxer litter with Mac Boxers.
